Objectives

  • Creating and maintaining a creative research environment promoting open and interdisciplinary collaboration and research focusing on gender and equality.
  • The Center for Gender Research contacts, supports and hosts research and research related activities focusing on gender and equality. It has secured cooperation with other similar Research Centers and Organizations and is always open to collaborations with scholars aiming at studying, understanding and overcoming gender and social discrimination.
  • To promote initiatives which increase gender awareness within the academic environment as well as the general public. Working towards this goal, the Center organizes dissemination, extension and liaison activities with stakeholders and the general public.
  • The Center owns teaching and lecturing equipment and material as well as an extended collection of catalogued material which is available to students, research scholars and all those interested in Gender and Equality issues.

Research and results

  • The Quality of Gender Democracy in the European Union: study of two legislative processes (G. Papageorgiou, 2009-2014).
  • Biomedical technology and assisted reproduction: ‘promises’ and conceptualizations in printed and electronic advertisement of assisted reproduction centers (Vasiliki Petousi, 2008-2012).
  • The effects of the economic crisis on gender relations in Greece (G. Papageorgiou, 2014-2015).
  • Women in Power in Decision Making (G. Papageorgiou, 2015).
  • Women Writers in History – Toward a New Understanding of European Literary Culture (Suzan van Dijk, 2010-2013). Aimed to map women’s literature throughout Europe until 1900, and to construct a database facilitating future research on the field.
