Objectives

  • To focus on the domain of Literary Studies, Artistic Studies, Cultural Studies and Feminist Studies, in conjunction with other scientific areas such as Philosophy or Sociology.
  • To combine excellence with the relevance of scientific research.
  • To dedicate to the study of issues involving Literature in its different expressions and intercultural, interartistic and interdiscursive relationships.
  • To participate in several international projects and regularly organizes seminars, international conferences, multidisciplinary events and university extension activities, benefiting from a large community of visiting researchers, lecturers and guest artists .

Financed Projects:

  • Literary Utopias and Thought: Portuguese Culture and the Western Intellectual Tradition (Fátima Vieira, Project I: 2002-2003; Project II: 2004-2006; Project III: 2007-2010). Results in its website: web.letras.up.pt/utopia
  • New Portuguese Letters Three Decades Later (Ana Luísa Amaral, 2005-2008).
  • New Portuguese Letters 40 Years Later (Ana Luísa Amaral, 2009-2014). Analysis of the book Novas Cartas Portuguesas, published in 1972 by Maria Isabel Barreno, Maria Teresa Horta and Maria Velho da Costa, being one of the most translated Portuguese books of all time.   • Utopia, Food and the Future: Utopian Thinking and the Construction of Inclusive Societies – a contribution from the Humanities (2015-2018).

ILCML streamlines 2 knowledge bases, 2 databases and a portal of an international research network; is responsible for editing 3 electronic magazines, 2 collections of digital books, and 4 collections of printed books.
